What is a clock hour?

A clock hour is one hour that someone receives instruction. We are not allowed to approve hours for meetings. The program must be delivered in a training format. In person or online are appropriate forms of delivery.

How do clock hours work?

Clock hours are for teachers in the State of Washington who want to earn continuing education. They can use them for salary advancement or to renew their teacher’s certificate.

How do I apply for clock hours for my school or group?

First, download the Clock Hour Application from our website. Next, complete the application and email it to Cindy at Cindy@cstp-wa.org, or you can mail it to: CSTP, PO BOX 4162, Olympia, WA 98501. Please allow three days for applications that are emailed or two weeks for US Mail processing. Once your application has been received, you will receive an email confirmation and more information about your approval status.

Does it cost anything to apply for clock hours for my school or group?

There is no cost to apply for clock hours for your training. Participants who attend the course will pay a fee for the hours they are entitled to purchase.

I’ve heard about the three hour rule. What is that?

Per WAC 181-85, we cannot approve any program that does not go for at least three hours. If your program goes for 3+ hours, we are happy to review your application and let you know if it is approved. Conversely, if your attendees do not attend a minimum of three hours of your program, they cannot purchase anything less than 3 hours.

What is the process once my application is approved?

Once your Clock Hour Application is approved, you will be notified by email. Depending on when your program starts and your preferences, we can mail all the documents to you via US Mail or we can email you everything. In your clock hour packet, you will receive a sign-in sheet, clock hour registration forms and instruction sheet.

Each day that your program occurs, you will have participants sign-in on the clock hour sheet that you are provided. On the last day of your program, you will provide the clock hour registration forms and instruction sheets to all of your participants.

You can choose to collect the registration forms with payment and submit them to CSTP along with the sign-in sheets. Or you can have each participant submit their registration form directly to CSTP with their payment. We ask that registration forms be submitted within 90 days of the program ending.
