A new affiliate of the National Staff Development Council (NSDC) is emerging in Washington State. The Staff Development Council of Washington (SDC-WA) is an organization focused on professional development, defined as a comprehensive, sustained, and intensive approach to improving education professionals' effectiveness in raising student achievement. For $30 annually, people can become a charter member of SDC-WA.
SDC-WA is committed to:
-- Seeking out new ways to build capacity among members
-- Supporting leaders and members through networking and knowledge sharing
-- Building partnerships with organizations that prepare and support district and school leaders for instructional leadership
-- Building trusting relationships between and among state educational organizations
-- Influencing state and local professional development policies and plans so that they reflect research-based best practices for raising student achievement.
Activities to achieve these commitments will include:
-- Problem solving sessions to address common needs
-- Networking
-- Technology webinars
-- Collaboration through technology
-- Round table discussions by topic
-- Book studies
-- Regional cohorts
